Seeley Riverside Cemetery

General Summary of Cemetery Ordinance

TOWN OF LENROOT SEELEY RIVERSIDE CEMETERY

On the 2nd day of August 1920 the Seeley Riverside Cemetery Association was formed for the purpose of acquiring land and maintaining a public cemetery. There were 13 residents from the Town of Lenroot at the meeting and elected Willis Silverthorn as the Chairman, they also elected a Secretary Nathaniel Dexter and 3 Trustees Jensen Uhrenholdt, Win Sabin, and Oluf Cook to complete the new cemetery board. Over the last 100 years many Town of Lenroot residents have served on the board to maintain, improve, and plan Memorial Day service and they are the reason we have a beautiful cemetery today.

As the cemetery grew, it needed financial support, a secure place to keep the records and a permanent body to insure cemetery maintenance.  In 2015 Chairman Jack Sjostrom signed the Seeley Riverside Cemetery over to the Town of Lenroot and the name of the cemetery was changed to what it is today the Town of Lenroot Riverside Cemetery.  Today, the cemetery is administered by a Town Board committee comprised of Town Board members and Lenroot residents and is governed by provisions in Lenroot ordinance #2015-001

Since the Riverside Cemetery is a public institution, anyone can purchase lots.  Interested people need to contact the Lenroot Clerk.  The master plat of the lots is located in the town hall.  Lots being purchased will have a deed and will be recorded in the Sawyer County Register of Deeds office.  Both full body and cremains are allowed.
