2022 PROPERTY TAX INFORMATION

  • Property Tax bills for the 2022 tax year were mailed out December 12, 2022.  Should you have questions/concerns, we encourage people to utilize the Sawyer County website first.  Many of your questions can be answered at https://sawyercountygov.org/tax to obtain tax information, including tax bills, statements, receipts or options regarding payments.
  • Billing and mailing address changes can be submitted online at https://sawyercountygov.org/address
  • If you sold or purchased a property during 2022, property taxes are typically pro rated at the time of the closing of sale; we ask that you refer to your closing documents or contact the company that handled your closing for more information.  We have no knowledge of that information, nor do we have knowledge if your tax payment will be made by the bank through escrow, etc.
  • We do not accept credit card payments for property taxes at this time.

Thank you,

Rebecca Brunner- Stroede
Town of Lenroot Treasurer

REAL ESTATE PROPERTY TAX INFORMATION

Most privately owned real estate in the Wisconsin is taxed.  Property taxes fund counties, townships and schools.

Where do I pay my property taxes?

Current year taxes paid before January 31 are payable to the Town of Lenroot Treasurer by mail, to the address shown on your tax bill. Open hours for payment at the town hall vary each year.

When is my property tax payment due?

Property tax bills are mailed by the Town of Lenroot in December.

Payment of the first installment of taxes, or payment in full, is due to the Town of Lenroot Treasurer by January 31.

Payment of the second installment of taxes is due to the Sawyer County Treasurer by July 31.

What if I miss the January 31 deadline?

If the first installment is not paid by January 31, the entire unpaid balance becomes delinquent (voiding all installment options) and is subject to interest effective February 1 at a rate of 1% per month and penalty of 0.25% per month until it is paid in full. (sec. 74.47, Wis. Stats.)

How does the Treasurer determine if a real estate tax payment is considered timely?

Per State Statute 74.69(1): Property tax payments are considered timely if:
•    They are in a properly addressed envelope.
•    They are postmarked on or before the respective due dates, with postage prepaid.
•    They are received by the proper official within 5 working days of the due date.  We urge taxpayers to mail payments several days early to avoid postal delay.

Own Personal Property in Lenroot?
Personal property taxes, except improvements on leased land, must be paid in full to the Town of Lenroot treasurer on or before 5 working days after January 31 or the taxes are delinquent.

Want a receipt?
Provide/include a copy of this tax bill, payment stub, or Tax ID number with your payment. Receipts will NOT be mailed unless a self-addressed, stamped envelope is included. A receipt can also be printed from the Sawyer County website at http://tas.sawyercountygov.org. If making payment by check, your tax receipt is not valid until the check has cleared all banks.
